We've Moved!
Hi All- We’ve moved! A whopping 3 miles across Stevens Point! Now that we’re in our New house I thought it would be a great time to update the blog. We closed on our old house on Fremont and our new house on Indiana Ave. on my (Rachel) birthday, June 19th. We are loving it! Much more living space, and a wonderful backyard and deck. I know we have more space when I’ll call from one end of the house to Maylie that I’m in the Living room and she says, “where’s the living room, Mommmy?” She loves to go to her new room “with the pink carpet” right next to her brother’s room “with the blue carpet”. Speaking of her brother, the only downside of the new house is that Elijah had to give up his “ultimate kid’s room” from the old house. We’ve tried to explain that yes, indeed, he did have the best, and biggest room and the entire house but that it really makes more sense to have more space for all of us. He’s coming around.
Elijah just finished a two week “Hablo Espanol” summer class and has started taking piano lessons. He’s taken two lessons so far but has already managed to plunk out the theme song from “Star Wars”. We finally convinced him that he would really be missing out on a lot of life if he never got back on his bike after last summer’s break (He didn’t stop limping until last Novemember and bike season was definately over by then) and now, thankfully, he wants to ride everyday.
Maylie would be happy if she had a friend over everyday and always remembers to thank God for “all of our friends” when she prays. Sometimes when she talks about her friends and her best friend, and what her friends are doing, it seems as if I’m dealing with a thirteen year old instead of a three year old. Her favorite pastime of late is getting her toenails painted.
No huge travel plans this summer. (although Doug and I are known to pop in our dvd from London/Paris from last summer when we need to escape. “You’re watching that again?” our son likes to moan.) Our plan is to stick close to home and painting some walls. (Okay, I’ve already started the painting. I couldn’t help myself even though I knew it was insane only days before our family was coming for the 4th. But now the entryway is a really gorgeous rust orange.) Well, there’s a brief update from the Allords. Come and visit us sometime! (Email us for specific address please)

what's next?
Hi everyone (anyone) who still is checking this site!
We plan to update this blogsite much less frequently as life moves into the new normal. I mean really, at this point, you don't really want to know what she ate today and those kind of trivialities. we'll do a new post in the new few days with B-day photos, but that wil be it for a while.
in other news, Doug is launching his own non-family related blogsite that will also be updated within the new week.

“Gotcha Day” Anniversary!
Today, November 30 2006, marks our one year anniversary of meeting Maylie. What a year! When I think back to the quiet, frightened little baby that was placed in our arms a year ago who couldn’t eat anything but bottles and refused to bear any weight on her legs, I’m amazed.
Now she’s a talking, laughing, running, teasing, constantly eating little girl who loves to stand and jump from anything. “Ta da!”
Top 10 biggest surprises of our first year with Maylie:
10. How quickly she “caught up” and went through the “stages” (crawling, finger foods etc.)
9. How she can pour on the drama- fake tears and everything- when it’s to her advantage
8. How amazing her big brother Elijah has been with her- she is soooo blessed to have him.
7. How she’s just gotten into 18 mo. Clothing and she’s nearly two. Little peanut!
6. How fun it’s been to have a girl (dresses, tights, hair ribbons, dolls, pink….)
5. How she already picked up on our mannerisms and speech patterns.
4. How exciting/rich/fun it is that she’s Chinese- it adds a whole new wonderful dimension to our family.
3. How easy it is to forget that she was adopted. The parenting highs and lows, emotions and challenges are the same.
2. How much of an adoption advocate I/we’ve become- “If you haven’t adopted you’re missing out on an amazing life experience!”

End of OCT / early NOV - long post & lots o' pics!
Well, it sure felt like Novembrrrr! today with temps in the 20’s!
Life continues to fly past – just like the leaves swirling down from the trees to the ground below. Elijah has been a great help in raking the leaves into piles around the house.
The kids had a great time jumping in the leaves, and we were quite surprised later on to learn how many leaves can collect in a diaper!
We had a good time when Janea and Rowan came to visit earlier in October. Maylie loves to try to interact with Rowan when they are together.
We decided to do our own school picture this year – and I think Rachel did an amazing job!
In October, we celebrated Jim’s 60th birthday…
You know it’s a good birthday party when people wind up wearing gift bags on their heads! It was like a witness relocation program outtake.
Oh, and Elijah had a blast entertaining everyone at the party with his new Whoopie cushion. (I swear, at the time I bought it I didn’t remember how funny flatulence is to a 7 yr. old). The best part of that purchase is to watch Maylie waddle over to a filled whoopee cushion and squat down on it with a sneaky smile. We got Rachel good the other day, too :-D
The kids went trick-or-treating with a bunch of our friends again this year. The university has a few dorms where students hand out candy. It’s great – it’s warm and dry and there are no cars to watch out for (only “interesting decorations” on doors that need to be avoided at times)
I (Doug) am currently going through the ordination process of our denomination. In short, I had to write a 30-page thesis paper going through the EFCA’s doctrinal statement and addressing contemporary issues relative to the faith. Next, on Nov. 14, I go before a council of 5-6 area EFC pastors, who question me for 3 ½ hours to determine if I should be ordained. If you area pray-er, please keep me in your prayers.
This Sunday we begin meeting with the cast of this year's Christmas drama.
Our musical this year is an original production Rachel and I wrote and the church performed back in 2003 called “A Shepherd’s Story”. We’re really looking forward to it this year as it was very well received last time and we’ve added a few new elements this time – including a really great song Rachel wrote! (there goes my one area in which I was better) :- (
If you’re in Point on the third weekend in Dec. we’d love to have you come. More info will be on the church website in late November.
